The after graduation update.

October 12, 2020

Hey everyone! I am so happy you’re here, it’s been a bit since I last checked in. (It seems that’s my new blogging routine––will I ever return to regular programming? Most Likely not.) But when I did, I mentioned that I had been applying for jobs and that there was one, in particular, that had my heart. I’m here to talk about that-because I GOT THE JOB. I GOT THE JOB AMIST CORONA-VIRUS, THE SLIM JOB MARKET, THE COMPETITIVE JOB MARKET, IN A FIELD I DIDN’T GET MY DEGREE IN, and so on. Thank you, Jesus!! ALL GLORY AND HONOR BELONGS TO YOU.

I’m now serving as the CREATIVE CONTENT DESIGNER for GNPI. We are missions non-profit that create media to share Jesus. I get to do what I love, in the field I was called to, all before medical school + in an environment that is all about Jesus! It is a drastic difference from my life in Sewanee––that’s a whole different post for a whole separate day. For now, I am working on social media, marketing, and missions! While I am not actually IN the foreign mission field…I am working in foreign missions! My God is so faithful. Also––In the meantime, I am studying for my MCAT and working hard to get my bills paid off. I moved back home with the goal of getting all my finances squared away as much as I can before medical school. REAL TALK tho…because it’s hard to save and it isn’t the most fun. I know it will all be worth it when that day comes. I anticipated one gap year but it turns out I may be taking two. I will be applying to Medical School when the applications open in 2021 which means I have to wait a whole entire year before I find out if I got in. So roughly if everything goes according to plan I will start classes in the fall of 2022 but I know sometimes my plan isn’t what God has. This is allowing me to just trust his timing more than ever before and work my butt off in the meantime. Furthermore getting this experience is such a blessing. I am learning so many things that are going to help me in my own personal business with 1998miss X Modest Fashion + in ministry. The craziest part is that I never imagined moving back home to MO and working in the creative field––but somehow I find myself here. I am happy and I am always excited for more crazy blessings. I am treasuring these last moments living at home with my family because I know they will be over before I know it.

I get asked this regularly so I will include it here: My bachelor’s degree is a bachelor of science in psychology with a minor in Asian studies on the pre-med track. While my first job after graduation is not in this exact field I do still value college and believe that my education was an essential component in getting this job/being able to do it well!

Are we still working on the reno? Yes, but progress is incredibly slow. My father runs a business full time and the house my parents bought is a massive project. It will be a bit of time before I show more progress on our blessing.

How are things going with my boyfriend Matt Viloria? We have been together over a year this coming Friday, October 16th and I never thought I would be a girl who is saying that. I never had a serious––serious love before him and sometimes I doubted that I would. Our love story is sweet and he makes me so happy. I can’t imagine my life without him––he is my best friend. We plan to eventually get married (no one is surprised) but contrary to most opinions we are waiting a bit longer before we get engaged. We have a lot of big dreams and plans so we are letting that serve as the goal. Marriage is such a big commitment and an incredibly beautiful thing––we want to go into with all the tender loving care that one can have. I am so blessed to have a partner who supports my goals and that with me makes a dynamic team. I love sharing our love story and will be posting an IGTV video + youtube video soon talking about it more per request.

How is boo? She’s doing good. She’s living in Madison with her boyfriend post-grad and is applying for jobs + grad school. I am so proud of her and miss her so much! We hope to see each other very soon. I am thankful for our four years at Sewanee together and I am so thrilled to see how our friendship grows through this new season. But I’ll stop right there because that’s a whole separate blog post for another day. (hopefully a day soon).

Thanks for checking in with me and I hope to see you again soon. For more regular updates (like daily) follow me on Instagram @1998miss. You’ll almost never miss a thing there. P.S. I heard Instagram was making a blog component so maybe will move there soon? I don’t know––I kind of love my own website.

About 1998MISS

The End of a Season and The Start of Something New.

May 23, 2020

A New Season

Hi, it’s been a while, I hope you are doing well, I’m so delighted you decided to stop into my blog at I am here to give a little update and to share about the closing of a season in my life. As of May 10th, 2020 I graduated from The University of The South in Sewanee, TN. I now have a Bachelors Degree in Psychology with distinction, a minor in Asian Studies with a Chinese language focus all while being a PRE-MED. I feel very proud of finishing my schooling at Sewanee and in a sense feel overwhelmed because it was in many ways the hardest season of my life. I went through so many challenges and adversity on that beautiful mountain. I went in a baby Christian and came out having a much deeper relationship with Jesus. He carried me through Sewanee. I am a stronger Alexa for all that I experienced and am still so happy I trusted God and went to school in TN. Since I first got there in 2016 so many of my prayers have come true. I was able to intern and work in China, Uganda, and see Dubai at Modest Fashion Week as a panelist and influencer. I made new friends, learned new languages and about new perspectives. I learned about people and the world around me-It is much bigger than the little farm town I grew up in. Most importantly I learned to trust Jesus and to be true to who I am. Everyone won’t always like you and I have learned that I must not let this get me down or consume me. The other greatest thing I gained through Sewanee was my true friends, Miranda, Zahnib, Mesgana, Mary, Pia, Daisy, Yadi, David, Andrew, Emerson, and Slice just to name a few. I am so thankful for these friendships.

My future plans include moving home (Missouri) to work for a year while studying for the MCAT and taking physics to apply to medical school. I plan to become a doctor and attend school in the Midwest to be closer to home. I want to focus on rural medicine and Native American health to honor my tribe at the Cherokee Nation. I have not yet accepted a full-time position but have several interviews and have faith God is going to place me at the perfect job. There is one in particular that I feel very connected to and would love to work for. I have accepted a position teaching English online to Chinese students on the side. In the meantime I am also helping to renovate my parents recently purchased estate Herts-Magnolia and will be starting reno on the guest cottage where I will be living very soon! I am excited to be on the property but also to have my own space. I have big plans and the cottage is the absolute cutest. It is a blessing from Jesus and he deserves all the glory and honor. To follow our renovation updates follow me on Instagram at @1998miss This is the first I have shared about the little cottage because I wanted the blog readers to get the inside scoop first. Transitioning to this new season of preparing for medical school and looking for work+ COVID-19 has presented many challenges but God is always faithful. I hope you have been well in the midst of all of this.

Also perhaps one of the most exciting updates is that I have now been in a relationship with my darling Matthew Viloria for over seven months. We have become best friends and I am forever in love. Much of the journey I mentioned above came with a lot of support from my boyfriend. He has been the greatest blessing of this last season. He came into my life at the most unexpected time and has stuck with me through all of my senior year. He has to lead me closer to Jesus, made me laugh, and has shown himself to be the answer to many prayers I have prayed. I am so blessed by the love of my life.

I am looking forward to what is to come and am excited to get into this next season. No doubt with Jesus, my family, and my boyfriend it will blessed.

Look for another post soon.

2020 New Year, Big Things

January 27, 2020

Happy New Year! I’m so excited about this year and what is on the horizon. 2020 is going to be beautiful- I am claiming it in Jesus Name.

This is my first blog post of the year and it’s actually almost the end of January!!! I have enjoyed brainstorming and planning about where I want to go and I have made a lot of goals!! I have also seemingly almost missed the first month of the year without a blog post! I’m hoping to better about that but I am also learning to accept that Instagram has become a mini-blog for me. I love to share daily updates on that platform but never want to give up this one. I fell in love with writing and modest fashion, which, is why I even started my blog. So my mantra is whether it is one blog post per month or four (one each week) I will do my best. I have dreamed a lot about what I hope will come in this year…. and I want to share those with you all. I am ambitious and a dreamer. This what makes me, me.

To start the year off I want to share twenty things I’m dreaming, hoping and praying for:

  1. I pray to fall more in love with Jesus and with his word every day.
  2. I want to do more workouts and be more active. + DRINK WATER AND SO MUCH OF IT
  3. I want to be more empathetic and sincere.
  4. I would like to use my motivation in culmination with action.
  5. I want to stay true to myself no matter what comes in this year.
  6. I pray to grow in every department of my life. I want to welcome challenges and growth.
  7. I want to invest more in people and experiences.
  8. I want to drown myself in worship music-to glorify Jesus only.
  9. I hope to spend time daily doing something to better my mental health-like take a couple of minutes to myself/self-care time. Hello Mario face-mask!
  10. I hope to get a night/day routine set into place. I have always wanted to have one.
  11. I want to take better care of my skin by using my skincare products routinely. I have always had them I just fail to implement them into use. I sometimes love the idea of productivity more than I love implementing it.
  12. I hope to tell one different person that I love what they mean to me every single day. This can be by text or by phone…but best in person.
  13. I pray I will spend time in prayer for as long as I spend on social media per day. It is essential that I have a quality prayer life.
  14. I pray to fall more in love with life every single day and to see my adversity as an opportunity.
  15. I pray to forgive those who have hurt me and those who will hurt me in the future ahead of time because in life that happens-people are people and they are not perfect therefore it is inevitable.
  16. I pray to be more understanding. Everyone is going through something and maybe you don’t see it but it is happening. Be kind. Be loving.
  17. I want to get more involved with my friends. In high school, I had a really close girl group and since I have come to college it has shifted a little bit. My best friends in high school have all kind of gone their separate ways and that is to be expected. I love them but we are all in different seasons. My best friends in college are all these amazing brilliant scholars with goals and sometimes we are all chasing the dream so hard that we don’t make time for fun together…that and half of them have moved from Sewanee. So it is something I would like to be intentional about.
  18. I want to edit my Instagram a little bit. I hope to make my feed a little more cohesive. I also want to really bust my brand wide open this year. I hope to change up my blog a bit too.
  19. I would like to spice up my style by narrowing down my closet and having more timeless pieces. I want to purge it.
  20. I would like to youtube more and do it well. I hope to make videos consistently because I find them really fun.

I know some of these goals/dreams may seem common but putting them out there and on paper means something. I have always been a lover of planning because I come from a family where it never happened (no judgments, my mom is fabulous) so to write something down is to say this is happening. I also hope to fall more in love with my boyfriend Matthew Viloria every single day. I have learned a lot these last few months and I am so thankful for my baby. I hope in 2020 we will grow closer to each other, closer to Jesus, our ministry and our dreams.

Love Modest Rose X 1998miss

October 1, 2019

Hello, all my guys and dolls!!! Happy Tuesday from me! I hope you’re having a blessed day filled with Jesus! Today’s blog post is in collaboration with LoveModestRose a modest fashion label based out of Michigan! I was so excited when the opportunity arose to work with them because they have so many classy pieces!

EXCITING: I will be working with them again in the coming weeks and I can not wait to share those looks!!!

Today I am sharing how I styled The White Giovanna Lace Crop Top Maxi Dress!!!! A beautiful dress that seriously is so flattering. I’m being 100% real in my review when I say it is a solid 10/10! I also wanted to suggest that if you’re looking for a classic bridal look this dress could easily be that for you! Great for the big day if you’re going with something a little more BOHO/laid back….also great for a bridal shower! It is very well made with lining underneath! It has a zipper up the back that is that extra beautiful neutral little detail. Its cropped so again it looks amazing! It’s suprisingly very comfortable too! I plan to wear it to a more formal event this week so stay tuned on the gram to see that! @1998miss Anyways let’s get down to it!

Thank you love Modest rose for this dress. You can shop it here: Follow them on Instagram @lovemodestrose❣️

Chivalry is not dead…

September 25, 2019

Hello gals and for my guy readers out there Hi! I’m so happy that you are visiting! Today I wanted to do a blog post in a format I haven’t exactly done in a while. I’ve been doing a lot of collaborations with brands (a total blessing/thank you Jesus) but today I want to take a minute to write from the heart!

Chivalry is not dead. I know what you’re thinking…OKAY, right she’s totally going to talk about Princesses and Princes, holding doors open and… yadayada. Well sort of but also not exactly so. For a while now I have wanted to talk about the topic of dating. I want to elaborate on something that has been weighing on my heart about the value of being pursued.

Chivalry is defined as showing courtesy or attentiveness. I believe this is so important to understand because in today’s society it is often lost in the movements of feminism. While I definitely support women getting equal opportunities and pay I realize women are NOT LIKE MEN! That is what makes us unique! God made both sexes different and we should celebrate that. All that being said I believe that men should be gentlemen and women should be ladies. No, I’m not referring to a 1950’s sexist mentality. What I am talking about is just a general sense of respect for how God made YOU. I think that although society is pushing for women to seek out the relationships they want to have and I still believe that there is beauty in the way God designed it. Being pursued by a gentleman has a little magic to it. I know first hand that this can be a challenge but I also know when it is done the right way it’s worth it.

I want to elaborate a little more about what I mean because trust me I’ve been in the very same scenario you may be in now. You want to be with so and so because they are so cute and yadadada. They may be frequently messaging you, snaping you, dming you… but yet you are just not sure if they like you. …. Let me be clear, if a guy wants to be with you he will be very intentional about interacting with you. For gals, it’s the same way. A girl will be intentional in just about everything. There won’t be all the games of waiting the three hours to reply etc. When a relationship is really of quality you will know. Your conversation will be exceptional and it will feel right. Also, side note: guys like to pursue girls that don’t put it all out there. So the girls who are open to being pursued not being all annoying. You save that for your bro’s or your gals. Y’all know what I mean…we’ve all been there. We have all been in that situation where so and so isn’t taking a hint. So think of that the next time you want to act fast.

Also, taking girls out to dinner or for an evening on the town is still a thing. Boys, you can still call a girl up and ask if she will go out with you. Girls, you can still be patient and wait for milestones in the relationship. Sometimes because of social media, I think we skip the part of taking things slowly. We forget to be intentional. We forget about the “courting” process. I’m writing to say Chivalry is not dead. You are worth FAR MORE THAN RUBIES SISTA!!! They wouldn’t just leave you out in the open to grab. There would be a safety box with a code. It’s okay to keep your heart on lockdown. You don’t want to give it to someone who isn’t worthy of it. Same for you guys!! Don’t get a girl who doesn’t appreciate you. You are a son of the king!

Girls, it is okay to expect effort from the guy you like. Boys, it’s okay to expect effort from the girl you like. It’s still cool to send girls flowers (even ones you find on the side of the road because honestly its the thought that counts.)Casual dating may be what is hip but it isn’t what sticks. Being intentional about who you pursue is worth it.

I have found that when it’s the right one you will know. I am all about intentional dating because when you are deciding who you want to spend your forever with you have to be intentional. It’s okay to be picky but more importantly, it’s important to be picky. I have seen it far too many times when relationships are not intentional and people end up marrying the wrong one. God made you and he made a partner for you. My mom always tells me “if he made an Alexa Sue-Anne Dudley, then he made a spouse for you too”.

Finally, are they chasing Jesus first and then chasing you? Is God their number one? Chivalry isn’t only from fairytales but it’s biblical. KEEP IT INTENTIONAL. This matters.

I have felt this in my own life and on my heart so I wanted to take the time to share. I do love sharing fashion but every once in awhile it’s good to break it up. Just because you don’t have someone doesn’t mean you should settle. The right one will come along and when they do you want to be available.

1998miss Twist on The Bridgette Brianna Swing Dress

September 24, 2019

Hello friends! I’m so happy you’re popping in for today’s blog post! This post is in collaboration with Brigitte Brianna at Sexy Modest. I worked with her brand previously (check that post out here: ) and had such a great experience we decided to do it again. Although I love working with brands I want to be clear I do not advertise or do work with anyone if I genuinely do not like the label. It’s obvious that I really like this company because they have so many chic options. They are really offering some unique options in the area of Modest Fashion!!

When selecting the piece I wanted to collaborate on I was immediately drawn to the swing dress. I loved it because I knew it would be such a staple piece! I choose Royal Blue because it’s a color that I’m told brings out my eyes!

To make this post a little more exciting I styled this dress not one but three different ways! I love to do this because I think it’s important to show you can spice up any look for any event.

So it was not actually my intention to include this iPhone shot but it shows how I styled this look for lunch at RESTORATION HARDWARE! + It’s the way I styled this dress for class!

#2 Modest Chic/Keeping it Dressy

I was in love with the idea of wearing my blue tie shoes with this dress because I think a monochromatic look is so chic! I paired my Danielle tutu from Skirt Society under the Swing Dress because I think it adds a “high fashion” vibe! I added my Gucci esc belt and a black clutch to complete the look. I think this is a great look for church!

#3 Classy for Brunch!!!

This may be my favorite version of the dress because I think the pop of print and the red bag really tie the look together nicely. I also am obsessed with this belt! BTW a wide belt always looks great and adds a WAIST! This was the first version I had in mind when I opened the dress and I honestly think it’s the style that looks the most flattering!

These photos were taken by my good friend Slice! We had such a fun day chilling in Nashville and I’m working on editing the vlog from the day! A huge thank you for being so sweet Sarah! I love you!!!!

Finally, thank you so much to Sexy Modest Boutique for this beautiful blue dress. I can’t wait to transition it into fall!

Y’all can shop this dress and many other darling options here:!

If you haven’t shopped The Brigitte Brianna you’re missing out! XO, I’ll see you Friday on my youtube channel and again next Tuesday! XO.
