How you can get healthier and longer hair!

July 22, 2017

Healthy Hair!!!

I am so happy y’all requested for me to share my hair routine because I believe my methods have truly helped my hair grow. Aside from the typical, these are a few different things you can do to get closer to those long healthy locks of GLORY!

My journey

I have always been known to have long hair because of my faith but there was a time when my hair wasn’t so long. I experienced something I had never felt before and that was knowing my hair wasn’t what it used to be. I didn’t want to except that my long beautiful hair that once grazed my hips was now mid-back!!! How did this happen? Well honestly it was a number of things that lead me to this point and a there were a few significant changes I had to make in order to reverse this dreadful situation. I struggled with have perfect hair all the time syndrome (Yes I totally just made this up but in all actuality y’all this is a real thing) this is when you style your hair every single day with hot tools to get that perfect look! OKAY, Y’ALL THIS IS CRAZY. Why would we want to fry our beautiful hair to look “beautiful”? The answer is because we don’t know the power that is in our hair. Our hair is our gl0ry as women we should do our best to protect and care for it!!!! Once I started using heat protectant and went on a NO HEAT CHALLENGE FOR A YEAR things started to change. This was where I literally only put hot tools on my hair for the A-List items and honestly, I just learned to love sponge curls and my natural look! Slowly but surely there was growth!

The second thing I had to address was my eating habits. I had an unhealthy self-image which caused me to take a healthy life style change of losing weight to the extreme where I would derive my body of food. I lost around 50 pounds completely altering my body but to a point where eating food was something I enjoyed not doing. I acknowledge that losing weight is a good thing but it is when you begin starving yourself that it becomes a problem. I can even admit now that I am not thrilled with my body size but the difference is this time I’m going to change it with good measures. I also know that my weight is a number and there is always going to be someone who is prettier, skinnier, smarter, and more beautiful than me. But there will never be anyone else that is ME, nobody else will have the unique things that make me me. I also found my self-worth and image wasn’t coming from my GOOD, GOOD FATHER (Jesus) but was coming from the world. After I prayed and worked hard eventually I had a heart change and a big talk with Jesus where I learned he designed me just as he wanted me to be. I was reminded that my body was a temple of the Holy Spirit and that I should take care of it but that starving myself wasn’t the way. So all this is to say once I adopted good eating habits (giving up soda, drinking water, and actually eating nutritious foods) my hair slowly but surely started to grow.

The third thing I changed was my routine. I started taking vitamins every day (I’ll link them below), washing my hair twice a week with a shampoo that was actually good for my hair (I’ll link below), starting the inversion method, hot oil treatments, not hot tools, and loving the hair I had.

Before I get into more detail the answer is yes you will find that this was an expensive process but in the end, I have found that it is well worth every red cent.

THE GOOD STUFF

Vitamins: Vivscal (Under $50 Monthly, one pill per day!!!)

Shampoo & Conditioner: Living Proof ($25 per 8oz bottle, I also recommend the general shampoo)

The Inversion Method: Look it up on youtube, and google it! I hope to make a tutorial myself because I couldn’t find any videos worth sharing. BUT IT DOES WORK!!!!

Hot Oil Treatment:  Coconut Method

HOT TOOLS FOR THE A-LIST ONLY!!! I AM SERIOUS Y’ALL!

& FINALLY

Love the hair you have because it’s yours. You must be content with what you have before God can bless you. Recognize the beauty and power in your hair. Understand you must protect it to keep it.

& I’m gonna let you in on a little secret y’all the

#1 BEST HAIR GROWTH RECIPE

is prayer and drinking lots of water. I literally have prayed for my hair to grow every single day with a pure heart recognizing that my hair is my glory. I drink loads of water + plus write it on my prayer wall.

RESULTS: MY HAIR HAS GROWN SIGNIFICANTLY. I DON’T HAVE ANY EXTENSIONS IN & GOD HAS HEARD MY PRAYERS. THE OTHER THING IS EXTENSIONS ARE A GREAT QUICK FIX TO HAVING LITTLE OR SHORT HAIR. IN THE PAST I HAVE WORN TAPE IN FROM SALLY’S. WARNING THESE ARE A HASSLE AND THEY ARE EXPENSIVE.

1 Corinthians 11:15 “But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering”.

Love y’all ALWAYS.

I’m officially in Uganda.

June 24, 2019
Hello, my friends.
It's been a bit since we last checked in! I'm offically in UGANDA!!!

I had a very long post all ready to post but I decided I would save it for another day. I wish to share it separately than my Uganda update because I choose to talk about some of the tough things I have experienced. I wish to address in that post, political profiling, social media, bullying, and negativity. Within that, I must share that this update is for my blog readers only the ones who choose to follow this very personal platform. That means if you do not know who I am as a person, my calling and my style of sharing please do not be negative about this post. I am not welcoming anything other than positivity. Many times in my life my kindness has been mistaken for weakness. I’m not weak.

I ONLY aim to spread love, positivity, and joy. I am not trying to do anything other than celebrate the beautiful things happening around me and the beautiful people I’m meeting here. I love Uganda and I want the many people who do not have the opportunity to travel to be able to live through my experience. Not everyone is called to missions, not everyone desires to travel to Uganda but they may wish to understand what my experience has been here.

Today my effort is to show that as my life is being impacted, while, here. I am learning so so so much and I love the staff and students at FOCAGIFO. They have taught me so many different things!! One of my favorite things to do is to visit with the students in fashion design!! They are so talented. Aside from that I’m learning about the youth in UGANDA in my everyday interactions with them. It’s amazing!!!

BUT I’m not out here trying to save the world! What I am trying to do is love this experience and share it will my followers. I fully believe that Jesus is the only savior.  I am just his vessel.

Unfortunately due to a series of events I have to make this clear but most of you who know me already know all of this.

Upon arriving in Uganda I fell in love. I truly fell in love with Hope Institute and it’s students. It is a vocational training school doing amazing things. It focuses on helping students who have in some capacity been affected by HIV/AIDS an opportunity to learn vocational skills. It gives them an opportunity to succeed and escape the negative effects that come with HIV.  The different departments in the school are: catering & hotel management, electrical engineering, mechanics, construction, early childhood education, hair & cosmetology, and fashion & design.  The students are also learning other basic foundations such as business, life skills, community health, computer, leadership, etc. I am assisting in these courses as well as learning so much! I love helping in the leadership class & the health class! It’s where my passions lie!!! The students are 16-25 years old and we are really enjoying each others company! This is a huge blessing to be able to interact with youth my own age!! God is so good. It is also such a blessing that I am able to even be here this summer interning!

Fun stuff: The students have already braided my hair at least 100 times and it’s actual art. I appreciate the hard work that goes into braiding & I think it’s beautiful. The students and I also really enjoy worshiping together. This might be my favorite part because connecting through Christ is beautiful.  I love that all the way in Uganda a love for Jesus remains constant and we are able to come together within our different cultures to just glorify God. As an apostolic Pentecostal my worship is similar to what I have experienced with the students! I have also really enjoyed eating local foods as well as enjoying the students from catering and hotel management cuisine. They are so talented at cooking!!! I have loved sharing starbursts, water packets, beef sticks and caramel candy with the students and staff. It’s fun to see if they enjoy them or not. They also love to share their favorite treats with me.  It’s amazing that we are both learning about each other’s cultures together! One of my duties as an intern is to plan a celebration for the fourth of July and I am so excited. On the first day, we had a meeting where I learned that I would be selecting an American song to teach the students and planning a party. I love that we can celebrate America’s independence all the way in Uganda. It is amazing because Sewanee’s relationship with FOCAGIFO is very special. Every single summer Sewanee selects two interns to send to Uganda!!! It’s also special because it’s giving the students & the interns an opportunity to have a cross-cultural learning experience.

So in addition to having the time of my life making so many friends and learning so much about UGANDA… I am also seeing God do so many things. I feel I have become stronger as a Christian and as a future missionary. I have seen my calling be questioned. I have experienced working in a secular setting and a church environment. I am encouraged because I see without a shadow of a doubt this is my purpose. Regardless of what anyone may suggest about missions I am called. At 13 years old God told me & I ran from it until I was 17. Here I am at 21 not apologizing and not denying that it is where I am supposed to be. Big hearted me ready to GO where God desires. China & Africa he told me. I didn’t believe it but I’m 21 years old and I been both places. God is preparing me in the now. Regardless of the negative comments that comes from those who are against missions I stand firm knowing JESUS is the one who has the final say. He is the one I am going to trust & he is the one who called me. He is the only thing that matters so forgive me if I dismiss your negativity.

Finally, I am so thankful for all the things I take for granted in the United States. It would be beyond ridiculous for me to write this post without being honest about that. We are a blessed nation and I personally take so many things for granted. Living here in Uganda in beautiful Africa I have to recognize in myself that I can do better. I can be better & I can remember to thank Jesus for the little things.

I have seen the true beauty is in the people you call your friends. People are more valuable than materials could ever be. We are so consumed with stuff. The Bible does talk about this and sometimes we forget. No this doesn’t mean we should criticize every single person from the United States but it does mean we should look within ourselves. Remember God is the judge, he is just. 💛

Love others, Love Jesus. It’s the only way to be. Respect others. Not everyone was raised the same as you. Not everyone has the same education as you. Not everyone will agree with you. Get used to it.

Brand Collaborations Wardrobe

The Bridgette Brianna Overall Dress

January 30, 2019

Hi friends! Happy Thursday and welcome to this weeks blog post! I am so happy for today’s post because I have been dying to share these pictures and this dress with Y’all! I am working with a beautiful new modesty brand called Sexy Modest by Bridgette Brianna @modestshoppin.

Sexy Modest is a great brand based out of Utah providing gals all over modern modest options. When the opportunity arose to collaborate with this brand I was thrilled because there are SO many beautiful clothes. I debated for FIVE EVER trying to decide on what I would feature on 1998miss.com and add to my closet! I finally decided it had to be the stunning Bridgette Brianna Overall Dress because it’s girly, classic and it comes in every color! I felt like the ruffles add a super girly touch and the V in the back is very slimming. I almost ordered it in pink because I thought it would make the PERFECT valentines day look but then I went with black because I thought I would wear it more! I always pick black because I am always looking for the most slimming look but the pink was also SUPER cute! If you’re trying to decide on what you will wear for Valentine’s day with your love or Galentine’s day with your gal pals this dress would be GREAT!

The dress fits true to size and has is made of a stretchy material which is super great because it’s also super comfortable! It looks great on and feels great too! One last thing I really like about this dress is the fact that you can easily dress it up or down! It would be great for a day of classes (that’s what I’ll wear it for because I have an exam on VDAY) or for a date night with your love. It will transition easily from day to night! P.S. The Bridgette Brianna Dress HAS POCKETS!

Shoutout to my best friend for being the best photographer ever! Seriously love you BOO!

As you can see here I styled this dress up for a girly Valentines Day inspired look with the pink button down underneath the Bridgette Brianna Dress but you could easily do a grey turtleneck or a sheer blouse! I put some Chinese inspired booties from Sam Edelman with the look for a fun element and finished off my hair with a beautiful embellished J Crew Bow.

Dress: Sexy Modest |  Pink Button Down: Ralph Lauren (Similar Style on Sale Here) | Embellished Hair Bow: J Crew | Booties: Sam Edelman | Little Red Bag: No Brand (Similar Style Here)

Thank you again to Bridgette Brianna and the gals at Sexy Modest for this dress! I look forward to working with y’all again in the future.

And remember gals you don’t have to compromise to look and feel stylish while staying modest!

Just a reminder I post daily on Instagram, Thursday’s here on 1998miss.com and Friday’s on my youtube channel! You can click the link here to subscribe to my channel to get notified when I post!

January Favorites

January 25, 2019

Hey!! Welcome back to 1998miss.com! I am so happy you’re here! It’s been a little bit since my last post and I apologize. Since then I’ve come back to college started my classes and have been insanely busy. I have been working on getting back into the swing of things and determining what the best schedule is for 1998miss.com this semester!

I’m moving my weekly blog posts to Thursday’s and my weekly vlogs to Friday! This way I can really focus on my schoolwork early in the week and get new content ready to share by the end of the week! I am also still continuing my weekly blog posts with Skirt Society writing a new post every Wednesday! You can read Yesterday’s here!

Also if you haven’t yet please check out my last three blog posts on 1998miss.com here, here and here! Now let’s jump right into the blog!

Today I’m sharing my January Favorites which includes products I’ve had my eye on, have been using or just really want for the month! I always enjoy reading these style of blog posts so I’m excited to share my own with Y’all.

The first is something I’ve had my eye on since I first heard about it but the downside is that it is SO expensive so I haven’t gotten to give it a whirl yet. I have watched many tutorials of bloggers using it and loving it so it’s on my wishlist for one day!

So the next goodie is a GOODIE! I bought my mom and friend each one of the fabulous candles from Saks just this week! I’m dying to have my own but they are quite expensive and I can’t have any lighted candles in my room so I’ll just have to wait until Summer. ALL the gals I follow love these and I get why because they look and smell beautiful!

I already ordered this because I feel like I can’t live without it. Since I’m in college and don’t have access to great tasting water I order one of these bad boys! We have one at home and I just need one for school. I think that it will help keep me consistent with drinking water!

Next is something I ordered from Skirt Society and I think every gal needs it! It’s the cutest little asymmetrical denim skirt! Get yours before they sell out!

These I picked up last week at JCREW for a steal of a deal and Y’all they are beautiful! I’m always on the lookout for cute hair accessories!

I also LOVE THIS AND WANT IT SO BAD. IT is on my bday wishlist and life wishlist. The ultimate cute phone case!

My all-time favorite planner and organizer! Literally, the greatest planner known to man is the day designer! I LOVE IT!

So the next thing is one of my all-time favorite Louis Vuitton! It’s the speedy which my mom has both in monogrammed and then Louis monogrammed but recently I am in love with this baby version! I want one with my initials!

Okay so this is basically just like a January round up and I really just wanted to tell Y’all about the things I’m loving recently!  I hope this inspires you a little bit to make your own list of favorites for January because even if you’re not buying it you can still enjoy just imagining you are!!

All Glory to God!
Peace and Blessings,
1998miss

Coffee Date #3 | 1998miss.com

Coffee Date #3

Happy November 1st!

Also quick Happy Birthday shoutout to my sweet friend Abigail Vogelsang!!!!!

Hey, Y’all welcome back to 1998miss.com I’m so excited you’re here and can’t wait for you to check out today’s blog post! Coffee Dates are sort of my favorite blog posts because I can share a little bit of everything I’m loving with y’all + I get a chance to be really personal with my readers! Unlike most of my posts, these are not just about fashion!

This is my third official coffee date on 1998miss.com so you haven’t missed many if you’re just now visiting for the first time! You can check out Coffee Date #1 and Coffee Date #2 here!

Grab your favorite cup of Joe and get cozy because here we go!

So I first off should say so much has happened since my last coffee date back in July but to kind of give you a brief update I’m currently back at Sewanee completing my Junior year as a Pre-Med, Psychology Major and hopefully a Chinese minor if the University will establish one. I just got back from fall break and finished my midterms getting 4 A’s out of the 6 classes I’m taking. This is a huge accomplishment for me since being in college because I really had to reteach myself how to study since I got to Sewanee! I’m so proud of myself for making such amazing improvements!! Thank you JESUS! I work out 3X a week and run which has been a great change in my life this semester! I am also being very intentional about what I’m eating and people are finally starting to notice my hair growth!!! Read this blog post to know why I’m excited about that! Also, I’m overloading this semester and couldn’t be busier! Between weekly blogging & youtubing, classes, studying, work study, leading worship at CRU, acapella, PMO, Sewanee Angels and Church I have almost zero time! But not to complain because I like it that way because I think I perform my best when I’m busy! I now blog every single week and sometimes twice a week with a guest blogger either a woman of faith or a Sewanee Featured Gal! This is so exciting because after 3 years of running 1998miss.com I finally have a schedule I LOVE! It has been so nice to feel organized and really get to choose in advance what I want each blog post to be about and each month on 1998miss.com to look like! On a very personal side note -my family has been going through something really difficult and midterms were really busy so I just took a break from blogging! I rejoined Instagram and the blog just last week with a new blog post talking about my two new skirt society skirts and how to style them each several completely different ways! You can read that post here! Skirt Society is one of my first few companies to sponsor me and I’m so excited to have the opportunity to work with such an awesome company! It’s exciting to have grown enough where I’m getting to feature beautiful clothes I love for free!

Before we move on to more fun things I would like to ask for prayer about a personal matter since we’re being real here and chatting over coffee. Just say a little prayer for me and my family :).

OKAY so here’s the lowdown on what I’m obsessed with recently!

THIS SONG:

I am so obsessed with Lauren Daigle’s song Rescue because it has literally lifted my spirits in the darkest moments these last few weeks! The lyrics couldn’t speak to my heart any more than they have and I’m so thankful I have had this song to listen to during this time. I literally love it more than anything else right now. She’s an incredible artist with a voice similar to Adele and singing for the glory of God! I honestly love her whole entire album so you should check it out here to listen!

THIS MESSAGE:

Surprise, Surprise I have been needing Jesus a whole lot more than usual so I’m filling my head, heart, and ears with his word! In addition to listening to Lauren Daigle ALL the time, I’m also listening to a message on youtube every single day. I love listening to Pastor Steven Furtick on Youtube and when I was listening to this week I found the best sermon. I’m not kidding Y’all it hit the hammer on the head to help me with what I’m going through. It was such a moving message, and it touched my heart. I highly recommend listening to all of his messages but especially this one! It’s called You Must Be Important and you can listen to it here.

THIS QUOTE:

THIS NAIL POLISH:

I still love the polish I shared on the last coffee date post but have been using this color a lot! It’s a little bit different and it’s chip resistant! So quick and easy to use + I’m saving so much money by not going to a salon. Get this great shade at CVS or similar stores-It’s called Chai on Life | Shade 180 for Sally Hansen’s Color Therapy line! Also available here!

THIS BLOG POST ON LONESTARSOUTHERN.COM:

So I’m just thrilled for a blogger I love named Kate from over at Lonestarsouthern.com because she just got engaged!!!!! I have been following her blog for a while now and I feel like I know her as a close friend lol-but I know this is a precious blessing from God that she’s marrying Andrew! She’s a beautiful gal who you NEED to follow! She’s always sharing uplifting content and actually started her blog in college! This is one of the reasons I love her so much as a current blogger at Sewanee! So check out this heartwarming post here and follow Kate on Instagram here! P.S. I’m hoping one day I’ll find my other half just like Kate and have faith that it doesn’t have to happen at the same time as my best friends or in college!!!! <3

THIS YOUTUBE VIDEO:

I recently found Tess Christine on YouTube and love her New York City series!!!! She’s seriously so pretty and does an amazing job putting together this series! Check out her Video NYC GUIDE: Top Instagram Photo Locations!

THIS GAL:

Y’all talk about a blessing in my life! Literally, Michelle Horton is a blessing! She has literally touched my heart this last month with reaching out to me on Instagram and giving me the opportunity to feature her clothes on 1998miss.com! She has a beautiful heart and wants to help young women succeed! Her store has so many beautiful pieces and I featured two of them here! Go follow Michelle by clicking here!

THIS BLESSING:

I am going to be writing a featured blog post for Michelle at Skirt Society weekly!! EEEK EEEK EEK! GOD IS SO GOOD Y’ALL! I am getting paid to do what I love writing!! I am going to get to share an exclusive inspirational post on her website every Wednesday! Just a little tease of what they will be about: positivity, fashion, and faith!! These posts will be for women of all ages and will serve to inspire and cultivate an environment celebrating women!

Well, I’m all out of coffee so let’s catch up again soon! It was so good to see you and thanks for stopping by! Even in the middle of complete craziness, God is working in my life! I love Y’all!!

After The Songs Over

October 28, 2018

HELLO YOU! My name is Reneé Douglas! Excessive coffee drinker here from Little Rock, Arkansas! I probably didn’t brush my hair today, and I’ve spent too much time on Pinterest, but hey, relatable, right? So honored and excited to share a little bit that’s been on my heart with you guys!!

But Y’all. 2018 is almost over. It’s mind-boggling to think how fast time is going by. As I get older, the decisions I make become more important and harder to make. Been there before? Or maybe that’s where you’re at? Well, I’ve realized there’s a famous question going around that everybody and their momma has to ask me… “what’s your college plans look like?” Or “what’s next Reneé?” & 9 out of 10 times, I don’t have a solid answer for them. But guess what. That’s okay. I’ve had to convince and tell myself, that it is okay if I don’t have it all planned out, in fact, there’s just something about the season of stillness that is so monumental. A season of stillness is what I want to touch on.

It feels like God is standing up in heaven holding a boombox. One of those big vintage ones, propped on his shoulder. And he’s blasting Taylor Swift (to get my attention (carnal, I know haha). He knows I’ll sing every word. And then in the silence when the song ends, like a loud promise, He tells me to remain. To remain who and how I am in a world that wishes so desperately I wouldn’t. That this is enough. That’s a hard cookie to swallow am I right?

Could there ever be a more bold promise? I’m convinced there couldn’t be.

I, myself, am strange. But so are you dude. But even though we are loud, we are brilliant. And we are broken beyond articulation. When God created mankind, He created us, trained us how to move, how to go & how to do so naturally we think we are doing something wrong when we aren’t moving, when we aren’t racking up enough footage for our Instagram page. I’m guilty as charged. We become humiliated. Maybe because we don’t feel like we have enough small talk material to fill a conversation, maybe because we don’t feel interesting enough, ambitious enough. We talk to each other in bullet point victories, we skip right to the big moments while barely scratching the surface of everything that HAD to happen for us to get there. Paul says not to boast in our victories but in our weaknesses. Because this is what’s gonna set you apart from the person sitting next to you.

We’re always looking for the loopholes to becoming something more, to reaching somewhere new. But what if we just listened to the bold promise that where we are is enough. What if we had one moment of insane bravery and we remained who we are. Right now. Because the person you want to be isn’t going to become that person by skipping over the person you are right now.

God is a brilliant poet. In each season, He writes the lines of our lives so artfully, so abstractly, that we cannot know the meaning until the season comes to a close. We can’t interpret his rhymes until we’ve learned to listen to our own. He takes things away and leaves us with nothing but what we are right in that very moment to grab onto.

Then He turns up the boombox volume to the max and hopes we’ll still be dancing when the song ends. I hope you will be.

Being the single bridesmaid and three things to remember.

September 20, 2018

Hahahha~ hey y’all! Happy Thursday I’m so happy you’ve stopped in at 1998miss.com.

Today I’m talking about the beauty of weddings and being a single bridesmaid.

It’s such an exciting topic and it’s one I have wanted to write about for a little while!

So today’s the day!

First of all congrats to my friends the Keller family, the Pulliam family  and the Vaught family! I love you all so much and want to thank you for including me in your wedding. Each wedding was special, beautiful and uniquely specific to your love stories. I love y’all and I will never forget standing beside you beautiful brides!

Cheers to the beautiful brides I call friend!

The Keller Wedding

Abbie Keller, you were stunning and I literally cried so much when you walked down the aisle. You have been a very special friend in my life- you’ve been my oldest friend and you know everything about me. I trust you with the deepest things and I just want to say thank you for being a friend of seventeen years. I loved your wedding because of many reasons but my favorites were where you said “I do” (her grandparents a place I can remember spending many days there laughing with you), your unity ceremony (foot washing), your photography and your flower crown (it was so you)! Running around on the morning of your wedding is something I will never forget and our conversation the night before, I think it might be my fondest memory with you. I love you so much and I am so happy you have found a forever love with Jordan. You both love Christ and it is evident in your relationship. I pray God will continue to bless your marriage.

Oh and super cool thing about this friendship is that it started in pre-school and one day at a Christmas performance my great-grandma Virgina (a very special lady) was taking my picture with little Abbie bumping into Abbie’s dad when he exclaimed “Mrs. Payton!”. Yes my great grandmother Virgina was my pre-school best friends first grade teacher along with his twin brother and younger sister. My grandma was a very precious lady- she influenced so many lives including my own and the fact that she had been a teacher for most of Abbie’s family was a wonderful, unique and just so special. You see I believe God ordained my friendship with Abbie and I believe that is why it has lasted for so long. Thank you Jesus for your unique and beautiful works!

Abbie and I growing up!

Abbie and I on her wedding day!

Abbie on her wedding day!

Abbie and Jordan Keller on their wedding day!

The Pulliam Wedding

Mariah Pulliam, you were a beautiful bride with the most perfect dress. I also cried like a baby when you walked down the aisle to marry your best friend. I cried because you have been through so much yet you have stayed faithful to God. I am so proud of the woman you have become and of the life you have made for yourself. Your honor and comittment to Christ is so beautiful-it’s inspiring. Thank you for choosing me as your bridesmaid and thanks for throwing me your flowers (It seems like I’m gonna need them LOL). You have also been a very special friend in my life, we’ve been friends since we were 4 or 5 years old. Another beautiful friendship that has remained strong. Thank you for that and for loving my crazy uniqueness. You’re always laughing at something I’m doing and I love that! You and Nathan are precious together-literally God made you for each other. My favorite things about your wedding were the bridesmaid look (we got a color and were able to pick our own dress + we got to wear our hair however we felt most confident-a major bonus for the pictures), your dress (modest & BEAUTIFUL ON YOU), your music (it made me cry it was so perfect) and the fact that you did it all. You were so calm and you planned the perfect day something I hope to be just like when I get married. You and Nathan make a beautiful couple and I pray God will use you in mighty ways. I’m thankful for my new found friend in Nathan and the fact that you found your happily ever after. I love y’all and lookout I’m coming for ya St. Louis. 🙂

The Vaught Wedding

Regan Vaught, GIRLLLL you were a gorgeous bride and you guessed I cried when you walked down the aisle (I guess I just do that-I love weddings). You had such a beautiful wedding and it was so unique to you. I loved that about it-every detail was you. You have been a very special friend in my life because we were not friends until we went to Madagascar, Africa together on a trip that changed both of our lives. Although we both came from good ole Arkansas it wasn’t until we were under a starry Madagascar sky that we became best amigos. (Cue the tears) Our friendship is special because of that and the memories we made on that trip are ones I will never forget. Also side note THANK YOU FOR BEING MY PHOTOGRAPHER LOL. We’ve been friends for 3 years now and they are some special years. They are the years where I fully accepted my call to missions and grew closer to God. You were a constant prayer partner in those times and that is one of my favorite things about you. Your journey to find Ethan was special and I am so happy that God brought you to together. Your ministry as a couple is beautiful and just plain GOALZ (like Jesus I’m taking notes ;)) I am so excited to see where God takes you as a couple and I’m excited I have found a new friend in Ethan. My favorite part of your wedding was that it was so y’all (the venue and the PB&J unity ceremony), your bridesmaids (I got to make a bunch of new friends who I love!!! Shoutout to having the best bridal weekend and for having stellar girlfriends), your VINTAGE DRESS and the fact that Ethan is your soulmate.

P.S. Thanks for having me a few weeks ago! Y’all are the sweetest and cutest friends. Love your house and the time that we spent together! XO

Regan and I over the last few years.

Regan and I on her wedding day!

Regan on her wedding day!

Regan and Ethan on their wedding day!

ALSO I VLOGGED THEIR WEDDING DAY AND SO AT SOME POINT I’M GOING TO SHARE THAT.

Being the single bridesmaid.

So in one summer I was a bridesmaid three times and I loved it. I got to stand by my friends and watch them start their forevers. I believe love is the most beautiful thing on this planet and I am certain that each one of my precious friends have found forever love.  Seeing my friends say “I do” makes me excited for the future, excited to graduate from Sewanee and find my forever. I believe everyone has their own journey and God has the perfect timing for every love story. While that is easy to write, it sometimes can be hard to swallow when you’re still single as a pringle. You will sometimes feel lonely, insecure and have doubt about where you are in your life in comparison to those around you. Those are normal feelings but we must do our best to avoid feeling that way because the bible advises us against it. If we truly trust God we will never doubt, if we truly love Christ we will know we are perfect just as we are, if we truly want the best life we can have in Christ we won’t compare ourselves with others because God has a different plan unique to each person. We can not truly have our best life in Christ if we are focused on someone elses best life in Christ.  🙂

Oh, and your twenty’s are a weird time… some of your friends are in college, some are getting married, some are working, some might be having a baby and some might just be chilling.

So here’s 3 things to remember when you’re the single bridesmaid.

  1. Celebrate where YOU are in life!
  2. Be excited for your friends and remember your time will come.
  3. Trusting God with your future means trusting him completely.

While these rules might seem like common sense sometimes we need to be reminded & trust me girl I’m here to help.

P.S. Wherever you are my forever love I’m working hard for us. I just know we’re going to do great things together for Christ and when the time comes to say “I Do” I’ve got three gals who made excellent brides in mind for bridesmaids. (Wabbs, Riah & Regan) <3

I love you girls and I am thankful for y’all.

XOXO,

Bless others & Be blessed!

SUNDAY BEST Wardrobe

Sunday Best

September 13, 2018

Hey friends! Today I’m sharing the details of what I wore to church last Sunday! I thought it would be fun to do a Sunday best post because I haven’t done one in a hot sec! I also thought y’all would enjoy knowing where I purchased my darling dress bargain dress!

Sunday’s are good days for me but they are also busy days. Taking 20 credit hours, being pre-med, working a job and being super involved on campus means generally I have little to no time. On Sunday’s I get to leave campus to attend church where I can truly let go of my stress and focus on God. It’s a place where I feel safe. I enjoy service and choose to think only about God. It’s at this time that I find my strength for the week in Jesus by praying he will direct my path, keep me safe, handle situations that might occur and just walk with me through the week.

On Sunday’s I choose to have a positive mindset because while it’s my organic homework day + it’s also the day I use to plan for the entire week. (There is no better feeling than checking of a to do list so imagine that times 10! Planning days make a world of difference in my life!) I make my mind up that I want to start the week out positively and organized because nothing is worse than waking up in a rush with nothing to wear (we wear class dress at Sewanee so we have to look nice for class which I love) homework not finished, 1998miss.com a mess and me stressed out. Monday mornings can be filled with sleepy eyes so I prep Sunday night by filling out my planner for the week in order to be aware of the week’s obligations. I also prep my blog and vlog for the week (this post was written on SUNDAY!) so that I can upload while I’m in the middle of the week. I pick out my outfit for Monday and I load my backpack up so in the morning I just have to grab it to go!

Spiritual Emphasis

There’s a bible verse that talks about how we should view our days. This is something that my Grandma would greet me with every single morning I woke up at her house and it something I am constantly striving to live by.

Psalm 118:24 King James Version (KJV)

24 This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

As humans we can easily complain and focus on all that is going wrong in a day but this verse says “UH TODAY IS A DAY JESUS MADE FOR YOU!!!! YES YOU ALEXA! SO YOU BETTER BE YOUR BEST TODAY AND BE THANKFUL YOU HAVE ANOTHER DAY!”.

So I am intentional about saying this verse everyday especially on Sunday’s when I’m tired and know tomorrow is a Monday.

I hope this encouraged you! Be determined to accomplish your goals this week and live fully! Take today to start a positive mindset for tomorrow! YOU GOT THIS GIRL!

A Sewanee Feature

A NEW SERIES ON 1998MISS.COM

A Sewanee Feature is a new series on 1998miss.com where I will be featuring some Sewanee favorites. I am so delighted to be including some of my University experience on my blog by sharing these exclusive interviews which will happen every few months! A Cadence sister, a beautiful blonde, a style icon, a kind soul, jet-setter, friend to all and a Queen in every right.

I am so privileged to have had the opportunity to interview Miss Tessa Fox as my first EVER SEWANEE FEATURE!

My father owns a jewelry store which he built in the 80’s and that alone has been a huge inspiration to me. He designs custom jewelry When I was in 8th grade I went to Paris with him and tried on a beautiful necklace designed for Louis Vuitton. My mom has also been an inspiration for me as she worked for the Este Lauder and Clinique corporations while I was growing up actually for about 10 years. I also watched my mom designing the interior of our home! She has always pushed me as an empowered woman to be an empowered woman!  I love my parents.”

HER SAM EDELMAN STORY

Question: Okay, so I’m dying and all of Sewanee that knows you is dying-you work for Sam Edelman! OMG! Tell me more about what that’s like!!?

Queen Tessa Fox: “Okay, Alexa I KNOW IT’S CRAZY COOL RIGHT!”

“After graduation (at Sewanee!)  I wanted to pursue design. I went to Parson during the summer and took a class and that was like the hardest thing I have ever done. There isn’t a thing like that here. I got good exposure and realized how challenging that field is. I realized I needed to either go to graduate school or work in fashion/design somewhere to see where that would take me.”

“I decided to just go for the gold!”

“I just really got out there and started looking! I was primarily interviewed by Women besides Sam Edelman himself during my journey. I looked into Archeticual Digest and publishing. I started with no connections-I realized I was going to have to get into this field on my own. Throughout the summer after graduation I would commute to NYC and interview with people-if they weren’t my connection they knew someone who was! It was really cool but also exhausting. My favorite part of this journey had to be meeting people-people are so inspiring.”

“On a particular coffee meeting with a connection through family/Sewanee, I met someone who was connected to the Sam Edelman brand. Long story short-I landed an interview with Sam Edelman himself. This was the big shots and after a long summer searching I was thrilled!”

*Me: What did you wear! Already knowing it would be the perfect look!*

“I wore all black! A pair of tailored pants with a simple black blouse with darling cap sleeves-I wore my first pair of Sam Edelman shoes-The Loraine Loafers inspired a bit by Gucci! They were leopard so that was my fun pop! I was classic, put together and excited.  I actually cut my hair for my interview after reading an article in Vogue talking about the bob being back! I was sp inspired and just went for it! (BTW it is so darling!!) I wanted something exciting! I actually ended up mentioning this in my interview-How I follow the trend and I not only love it but live it! I talked about cutting my hair which really interested Sam.”

“Something I appreciate most about Sam Edelman is that he is so personal! He and his wife have a real success and they are so kind. They are also just the absolute coolest people ever-a small company feel but are actually very big!”

“It’s honestly so interesting Alexa, the difference in the fashion house companies. I learned all of this throughout my journey too!”

“So this was a huge year for Sam Edelman!!! We are the number one successful dress shoe brand at department stores in the united states. We are all about comfort! We don’t do anything unless it is comfortable and fabulous! Our customer is practical and I know you know that Alexa.”

“Sam Edelman is not fast fashion! We are intentional in our design and we put our own inspiration on every piece. Essentially every year the Sam Edelman team will go to Europe and go anywhere and everywhere buying what inspires them. It could be a feather-whatever it is gets grouped together and put in designing out shoes. We start wow and then shoe design trickles down into a wow yet practical.”

“Sam Edelman has it’s own identity! We are our own.”

P.S. Y’all I even got an inside scoop on next falls promotion design! That’s off the record of course! 😉

Queen Tessa Fox at SEWANEE!

Major: Philosophy

Minor: Studio Art

Favorite Sewanee Professor: “Jim Peter’s my advisor!”

What’s your favorite Sewanee wear?: “I love Vintage Sewanee wear! I also like to just get inspiration from the bookstore!”

What’s your Stirlings order?: “I love the Chicken Salad sandwhich on a baguette with the salad dressing! Yum!”

Did you do FYP or PRE?: “I actually did PRE and last year ended up being a PRE MOM! SO much FUN!”

If you go to Sewanee you probably have what?: “A Barbour Jacket! I even have one! It’s so Sewanee.”

What is something you wished you knew about Sewanee earlier?: “The talks! I really started attending guest lectures when I was a senior! I can’t imagine how many amazing people I could have heard if I would have went earlier. You get to meet such cool people!”

Did you GO GREEK?: “YES! I’M A TKP! I literally made so many great friends and connections throughout my sorority! Love TKP!”

I am so happy to have interviewed Queen Tessa Fox as my first EVER SEWANEE FEATURE! I met Tessa in Sewanee doing Cadence- we were Cadence sistas! She sings like an angel, always looked so stylish and was always the kindest gal in the room! She always made me feel welcome in the group and weekly I found inspiration in what she was wearing!

Goes to show ya Sewanee people! Get out there and don’t be afraid to meet people!

Also shoutout to Lily and David Fox! I remember when y’all called your sister at Wednesday Acapella practice when you got into Sewanee! You are the most precious twins in Sewanee and just like your sister are so kind! I am so happy to have Lily as a Cadence sista!

My 5 Favorite Beauty Products Right Now.

February 20, 2018

Y’all it has been a hot minute since I have been on the blog!! Sorryyyy!

Last week I actually had 4 exams and that alone made it a crazy busy week. Being busy is a great reminder of how blessed I am to have the opportunity to study at Sewanee.

I did a poll on Instagram a few days back asking what kind of posts y’all would like to see more of! It was beauty and college-surprisingly it was really close and I even got a few messages suggesting I do some of both! (if you don’t follow me it’s @1998miss)

So basically I’m gonna be kicking that off! I have done some critical work on the college part and that is coming soon. Literally, I CAN NOT WAIT TO SHARE but today I am going to be doing a post about beauty!!!

This is an area I am very interested in and so I look forward to talking more about it.

I thought I would start with a pretty basic post sharing my five favorite beauty things right now! This was actually an idea I came up with for my youtube channel but decided I would make it a blog post instead!

Essentially I will create a page on 1998miss.com dedicated to beauty and here is the mini launch!

MY FIVE FAVORITE BEAUTY PRODUCTS RIGHT NOW.

My #1 A1 DAY 1 BEAUTY PRODUCT: Chanel Le Tient Ultra Tenue Flawless Foundation

I love this product because it provides a natural look with great coverage. Literally, this + a little rose vaseline for your lips and you’re golden! It is absolutely an investment foundation and I can attest to its high quality. It’s important to buy good foundation if you wear it because it is for the health of your skin! I have used BB creme, Clinique, Laura Mercier, Dior, and Chanel is currently my favorite (although the others are great options too)!

Get it here!

#2: Living Proof Hair Products

Okay, Y’all this is something I can not live without! I highly recommend purchasing Living Proof hair care as it is a staple in my everyday life. There isn’t a product that they sell that I don’t like. I have tried almost everything they have available and it is literally LIVING PROOF IT WORKS. I shared a post this summer talking about my journey with hair growth and living proof was apart of the story. You can read that post here!! I used to use very inexpensive shampoo and conditioner not knowing how it was damaging my hair. Y’all know how important my hair is to me so this was a big revelation! My mom introduced (surprise-she always knows the good stuff) Living Proof Fizz products into my life my freshman year of college and I had immediate hair growth results. Among hair growth, I had healthy hair again and was able to style it without heat! Literally, I’d air dry after washing and it was golden for a FEW days! Living proof is available at Target, on Amazon, and on the Living Proof website. 100% you need this in your life.

Get it here!!

#3: DOVE dry shampoo!

Self-explanatory because I am the queen of dry shampoo. I love this dry shampoo just a little more than I should-being in college it’s a lifesaver. Literally, I wear it on the daily because honestly, I like the smell and the volume boost! Ask my gal pals and they will say it’s a necessity in my life. The great thing about this product is that it is long lasting, has different options and is only $4! I’m not joking it is the most affordable hair care product ever + it’s available literally everywhere. I have used all the different options and my favorite is the volume boost! My hair is naturally a little flat and a little spray of this and it always does the trick! If your spending more than you should on Dry Shampoo and are looking for a switch this one get’s my gold star. (I have done the leg work-trust me on this one) It’s just as good as a 38$ bottle of Fredrick Fekkai dry shampoo but better!

Get it absolutely anywhere like here!

#4: Neutrogena Wipes

If you are a gal out there you need these. I promise they will rock your world and you will be wishing you had them a long time ago! I am a HUGE advocate of getting the Neutrogena brand as I have tested others and they don’t provide the same satisfactory results/quality. I know the other brands might offer a $2 less price but you won’t love them as much! These are handy dandy, quick and easy wipes you’ll love. They provide refreshing wash to your skin and are SO SPEEDY when you are tired-I know Y’all know what I am talking about. Those nights that you just don’t wanna wash your face and you just barely got into your PJ’s before crashing. This is the trick to keeping beautiful skin while getting to bed early after a late night. Also, I love using them to help get off a messy facemask without getting the mask in my hairline! (that’s a pro tip) The greatest thing is these little wipes are also available everywhere, are so transportable, never messy and NEVER SPILL! They are under $8 and will make you happy! So go for it and invest in your skin, sleep and happiness with Neutrogena. I promise you won’t regret it and if you do you’re just crazy! LOL.

Get them absolutely anywhere like here!

#5: Clearasil Ultra Rapid Action Treatment Cream

For the gals who get a little acne here or there and just can’t deal. Almost once every two weeks I get a little something unfriendly on my face and this cream does the trick. It’s rapid action and I see results overnight! I know I can put a dab on my area of concern and it will be considerably better before I know it. I always have it on hand so I am worry free! I want to let y’all in on a little secret even without this product on how to reduce acne considerably! It’s really simple and Y’all have heard it time and again. DRINK YO WATER FAM! It’s so good and it’s so good for you! I know as I used to be an avid Coke Zero addict what that sounds like but I promise it is! I stopped drinking Coke Zero and started drinking half of my body weight in oz of water…I have seen considerable results. I didn’t ever have a severe acne issue but I would still get a little acne here or there and it would drive me nuts! Switching from soda to water has increased my energy, given me, overall healthy skin, made me feel better, decreased my appetite and kick started my diet with losing 5lbs immediately. So get this cream but for pro, results drink some water too! I promise it starts out hard but after two months I can’t live without my 1.5-liter water bottle! I have had this particular bottle of Clearasil since my freshman year and I am going to be finished with my sophomore year in two months. IT IS LONG LASTING! I promise Y’all will love this medicated cream and it’s under $10!

Get it here!

Alrighty y’all those are my top 5 go to things right now! It was so hard to narrow it down to just 5 so be ready for more of these posts! Hope you liked my first real beauty post!

I’ll be posting more soon! Hope that you have a great week and a happy Tuesday!

 Bless others and be blessed!

XOXO,

Alexa Sue-Anne Dudley
