The after graduation update.

October 12, 2020

Hey everyone! I am so happy you’re here, it’s been a bit since I last checked in. (It seems that’s my new blogging routine––will I ever return to regular programming? Most Likely not.) But when I did, I mentioned that I had been applying for jobs and that there was one, in particular, that had my heart. I’m here to talk about that-because I GOT THE JOB. I GOT THE JOB AMIST CORONA-VIRUS, THE SLIM JOB MARKET, THE COMPETITIVE JOB MARKET, IN A FIELD I DIDN’T GET MY DEGREE IN, and so on. Thank you, Jesus!! ALL GLORY AND HONOR BELONGS TO YOU.

I’m now serving as the CREATIVE CONTENT DESIGNER for GNPI. We are missions non-profit that create media to share Jesus. I get to do what I love, in the field I was called to, all before medical school + in an environment that is all about Jesus! It is a drastic difference from my life in Sewanee––that’s a whole different post for a whole separate day. For now, I am working on social media, marketing, and missions! While I am not actually IN the foreign mission field…I am working in foreign missions! My God is so faithful. Also––In the meantime, I am studying for my MCAT and working hard to get my bills paid off. I moved back home with the goal of getting all my finances squared away as much as I can before medical school. REAL TALK tho…because it’s hard to save and it isn’t the most fun. I know it will all be worth it when that day comes. I anticipated one gap year but it turns out I may be taking two. I will be applying to Medical School when the applications open in 2021 which means I have to wait a whole entire year before I find out if I got in. So roughly if everything goes according to plan I will start classes in the fall of 2022 but I know sometimes my plan isn’t what God has. This is allowing me to just trust his timing more than ever before and work my butt off in the meantime. Furthermore getting this experience is such a blessing. I am learning so many things that are going to help me in my own personal business with 1998miss X Modest Fashion + in ministry. The craziest part is that I never imagined moving back home to MO and working in the creative field––but somehow I find myself here. I am happy and I am always excited for more crazy blessings. I am treasuring these last moments living at home with my family because I know they will be over before I know it.

I get asked this regularly so I will include it here: My bachelor’s degree is a bachelor of science in psychology with a minor in Asian studies on the pre-med track. While my first job after graduation is not in this exact field I do still value college and believe that my education was an essential component in getting this job/being able to do it well!

Are we still working on the reno? Yes, but progress is incredibly slow. My father runs a business full time and the house my parents bought is a massive project. It will be a bit of time before I show more progress on our blessing.

How are things going with my boyfriend Matt Viloria? We have been together over a year this coming Friday, October 16th and I never thought I would be a girl who is saying that. I never had a serious––serious love before him and sometimes I doubted that I would. Our love story is sweet and he makes me so happy. I can’t imagine my life without him––he is my best friend. We plan to eventually get married (no one is surprised) but contrary to most opinions we are waiting a bit longer before we get engaged. We have a lot of big dreams and plans so we are letting that serve as the goal. Marriage is such a big commitment and an incredibly beautiful thing––we want to go into with all the tender loving care that one can have. I am so blessed to have a partner who supports my goals and that with me makes a dynamic team. I love sharing our love story and will be posting an IGTV video + youtube video soon talking about it more per request.

How is boo? She’s doing good. She’s living in Madison with her boyfriend post-grad and is applying for jobs + grad school. I am so proud of her and miss her so much! We hope to see each other very soon. I am thankful for our four years at Sewanee together and I am so thrilled to see how our friendship grows through this new season. But I’ll stop right there because that’s a whole separate blog post for another day. (hopefully a day soon).

Thanks for checking in with me and I hope to see you again soon. For more regular updates (like daily) follow me on Instagram @1998miss. You’ll almost never miss a thing there. P.S. I heard Instagram was making a blog component so maybe 1998miss.com will move there soon? I don’t know––I kind of love my own website.
