How to style 2 Skirt Society skirts completely different: a brand review + fashion inspiration!

October 25, 2018

Hey y’all! So happy to be back on 1998miss.com!

It has been a long two weeks off of the web but it was very much needed as I was going through a lot personally + the grind of school! I successfully got through all of my midterms before fall break which just happened to be 5 midterms (exams), 2 quizzes and a paper! I am so proud of myself for choosing to put a hold on my blogging/youtube channel for a second to take time for another passion of mine which is studying to become a doctor. If you didn’t already know this about me-I’m a pre-med student at Sewanee and my dream is to become a doctor who works in the United States to fund ventures outside of the United States to help the less fortunate. I love people and I have a specific burden on my heart for China so I would like to work there + if you didn’t already know I spent my summer in China working in a hospital. I also improved my Chinese language skills greatly-another side note if you didn’t already know I love studying the Chinese language and actually hope to get a minor in it at Sewanee. Wow, so that felt like a lot but honestly isn’t even the half of my story/testimony! I’ll def. have to plan on doing an entirely separate post/video on that because I can see I have a lot to say about the topic + it is very near and dear to my heart. I wouldn’t be Alexa Sue-Anne Dudley without the journey to where I am now.

I also just wanted to ask that Y’all would be in prayer over a personal matter for my family. Lot’s of love!! Y’all are the best and I just wanted to say I appreciate every single message, Insta DM and email I got from Y’all after I posted about needing some time. Thank you so much you have no idea how much that means to me and how much it lifted my spirits in a very dark time. Thank you for also being patient with me!!

SO WITHOUT FURTHER ADO….LET’S GET THIS BLOG PARTY STARTED!

Today I’ll be sharing 2 different skirts and how I styled them each in different ways! I seriously love doing posts like this because honestly who doesn’t want to know how to rock a look in more than one way! I love buying statement pieces and versatile pieces then styling them totally different!

I also just want to take time to thank Skirt Society for sending me two darling skirts-which I absolutely love!!! I literally can not stop wearing them! Between the two I have had so much SPICE added to my closet! If you’re familiar with Atlantic Pacific you’ll see a similar skirt in her new collection with Nordstrom to the Harriet Tulle Skirt from Skirt Society. But Skirt Society has a much more affordable option and it’s a skirt ALL fashionista’s need in their closet.

The Harriet Tulle Skirt

I was honestly so in love with this skirt when I saw it on the website because as I said before it is a staple in so many fashionista’s closets. It’s so fun to make it super dressy or to dress it down and pair it with a baseball cap + sneaks! I have worn this skirt 3 different ways and to 3 very different events!

The first way I styled it was for a Sewanee Angel Dinner at The Macfie’s house. I simply added a very structured formal top (could also consider it a jacket) with some daytime heels! I didn’t want something too over the top but also really wanted to look put together for the event. I finished off my look with a daring middle part and slicked back!!!!

Next, I styled this skirt totally different by putting it under a shorter dress for a very formal vibe. I wore this styled look to an Honorary Degree Dinner in Sewanee where I worked as a Sewanee Angel. This basically means I serve as a student who represents the face of the University and interacts with guest speakers (sometimes those getting honorary degrees), the board of regents, the board of trustees and the faculty as well as the Vice Chancellor of the college. It is a wonderful opportunity for engagement on Sewanee’s campus and I am so thrilled I have been involved in the organization since my freshman year. I also was the first member initiated from my class which is such an honor!!! I love being a Sewanee Angel and I highly recommend it to all students who are at Sewanee or are considering attending our university. For this event, I had the privilege of working alongside my new friend Jenna Land to welcome and correspond with S. Waite Rawls III The President of The American Civil War Museum Foundation in Richmond, Virginia while he was in Sewanee. He received an honorary degree at and it was such a delight to spend time with him while he was on campus. This event was a black tie event so I was very dressed up! P.S. I always get lots of questions about where I got this beautiful dress with an oriental flavor-it was a very special gift from my Khala. She got it in Pakistan and it was custom/handmade. It is my favorite piece in my closet and I love pairing this skirt with it to give it an elevated look.

Finally, I styled this skirt with sneaks, a black top and then a baseball cap for my classes at Sewanee. I wanted a fun yet not too over the top look for class and have always loved the style of sneakers with skirts. I like the contrast of super dressy with sporty/casual-I think if you are bold enough to wear this style you are bold enough to pull it off! I love doing white sneakers with this skirt because of its cream color and I searched high and low for the perfect sneakers after visiting China this summer and was so happy when they worked with this look! They are from Saks Off 5th and while they were originally around $500 I got this for just over $100! How amazing!!! I love a good deal and I love that I can now rock the trend I loved so much in China in the United States with my Harriet Tulle Skirt!

I also wanted y’all to see a similar skirt to this one which is selling for a way more than double at Nordstrom!

The Halogen x Atlantic-Pacific Tiered Tulle Midi Skirt  $100

You can check out more of this equally beautiful yet more expensive line here!

Skirt Society does an awesome job at providing beautiful, high quality and very current pieces to their customers. You have to check out my new friend Michelle’s website and see for yourself. I will link it down below with the Harriet Tulle Skirt which is currently on sale for $29.99- normally $40!

The Skirt Society Harriet Tulle Skirt  $29.99

You can get THE HARRIET TULLE SKIRT  here!

The Maribel Leopard Pleated Skirt

So this skirt was a must for me because LEOPARD is so in this FALL SEASON! Literally, all of my favorite fashionistas, bloggers, and magazines are claiming leopard to be one of the biggest trends this season. It’s a bit more bold for me than my usual picks because I’m more of a classic girl but I loved the Maribel Leopard Skirt! It is so fun and so comfy! I literally wore it all day in Nashville and to a church event over fall break-feeling very comfy yet stylish. I love the pleats and I just think the size of the leopard print is so perfect! I think it is so fun to pair any type of skirt like this with a big belt so that’s what I did! You can see here how I styled it two completely different ways!

First off I wore this skirt as a statement look and with more trendy vibes! I seriously loved trying it with a graphic tee + a very loud pink Birkin inspired bag for my trip to Nashville. I did a lot of pink with it but can also see red being a great way to style it next. I highly recommend this style to any bloggers or bold gals out there!

Next, I styled this skirt completely different going for a very dressy look! I wore it to a church function and went for a more classic feel. I did black and somewhat edgy with my pointed heels! I ended up matching my momma and saw so many beautiful girls rocking leopard at this event- but I’m not sure they all got theirs for a steal of a deal at only $36.99!!!!!!

You can get the Maribel leopard skirt from Skirt Society here!

I also wanted to share this awesome post written by  at Harpers Bazaar. It is so well written and shares so many different cute ways to incorporate leopard in your looks this season. If you look you’ll also see a skirt very similar the one I’m wearing above but for triple the cost of Skirt Society! Another reason why you should shop Skirt Society from here on out! Click the link here to read it!

P.S. I did a dorm room tour exclusive to Instagram and it’s available on my highlights so if you’re interested in knowing how my mom and I decorated a Sewanee dorm room click here!

Restoration Hardware in Nashville, TN: Celebrating 21 & TWENTYFUN!

April 18, 2019

HELLOOOO FRIENDS!!!

Wow, it’s been almost a month since the last blog post on 1998miss.com.

I would first off like to say SORRY, Y’ALL!!! I have been overwhelmed with school and work. Basically every single day I am WORKING MY booty off to get my school work done, study, be present at all of my extracurriculars and absolutely kill my grades!!! The end of the semester is always the hardest but I talk a little bit more about that here in my skirt society blog post!! It’s about keeping the hustle and that all things are possible with GOD! (Click the link to check it out)

So now that I’m officially back and back for good with blog posts on Thursday’s (I’ve honestly missed it so much and I love the consistent content of scheduled/expected posting) I’d like to start out with my 21st birthday celebration and the amazing experience I had at Restoration Hardware. This isn’t just any Restoration Hardware…the Restoration Hardware cafe, which, was recently opened in Nashville, TN.

On a Saturday afternoon, after arriving back from Dubai Modest Fashion week my best Sewanee gals and I traveled to Nashville for a late lunch at Restoration Hardware. In many previous visits to Green Hills Mall in Nashville, I gleaned in excitement as I watched reno being done to open this cafe. I knew as soon as it finally opened in this year that I had to visit….but, I actually didn’t get the opportunity to go until just a few weeks ago. It was the perfect place to spend a Saturday afternoon with my gals to celebrate turning 21.

If you haven’t been following me for long you might now know I recently attended Dubai Modest Fashion Week as a Speaker and Influencer!!! By far the coolest thing I have ever done and the most amazing opportunity I have been given in my 20 years!!! On the way home from Dubai we had a layover in Rome, Italy where I essentially actually rung in 21 with my momma. We wandered around Italy together eating gelato, laughing and taking photos! Our hotel comped us some special treats and upgraded our room to celebrate the big birthday. It was very sweet and I would highly suggest staying at their establishment if you’re visiting Rome. In my travel guide (COMING SOON) I will link all the details about Italy & Hotel Rex. For dinner, my mom and I ate some AUTHENTIC ITALIAN FOOD!!! PASTA GALORE. TO THIS DAY I’M STILL DREAMING ABOUT THAT PASTA. It was just a restaurant we found as we were wondering around.

Back to RH. So my gals from Sewanee: Yadi, Daisy, Song, Boo & I were the celebratory crew. After a fun trip jamming in the car (Nashville is an hour and a half from Sewanee) we arrived at our destination. Beforehand I made a reservation for our table (YOU NEED TO DO THIS BECAUSE THEY ARE VERY BUSY) and noted that it was a bday celebration. When we arrived they were so friendly and we were actually awestruck by how beautiful it was! I honestly had no idea that it was going to be the level of fabulous that it was (I mean I thought it will be good but not this level….that was my fault for ever doubting Restoration Hardware)! We were put at a table in the back corner where we could overlook the entire venue but we could also be in a more private area. It was perfect! Thank you, RH!!

After a great meal with lot’s of laughter and fun, we took a break for some pictures and they turned out beautiful! The lighting in the restaurant is so nice and if you’re even in the slightest bit interested in aesthetic then this is the place for you. Photos to follow.

WHAT WE ENJOYED

For the table: I ordered the most delicious Artisanal Prosciutto Board. It came with seasonal fruit and a warm baguette! YUM!

Entrees: I almost ordered the RH Burger because to be honest I love gourmet burgers but after talking to our hostess I went with the Lobster Roll! It was to die for! I got fries with it because it was my birthday and I was totally using the “I’m treating myself card”. Some of my gals got the side salad and I gave it a taste…it was AMAZING! So either way you’ll def be happy…fries or a salad.

Dessert: RH was the sweetest to send our table a plate of their homemade warm cookies with a candle + I ordered the banana split for the table.

It was truly such a special day and the best place to lunch with my gals.

WHAT I WORE

I wore my new favorite style of dress from Skirt Society: The Milan in Ivory!!! Thank you Michelle for sending it over! I love it!!!! Linked below!

Dress: Skirt Society  | Belt: Gap; similar style available here| Nude Heel: Dillard’s; similar style available here | Bag: Chanel; similar style available here

P.S.: If you’re looking for the Amazon link for the pearl barrettes/clips its here!!! These are what looked to be the best option and I love my mine!!!

XOXO My loves!!!

See you soon!

I’M GOING TO BE LIVING IN UGANDA THIS SUMMER

March 29, 2019

Hey y’all!!!! WOOOOO HOOO! I’m so excited to officially announce that I will be returning to Africa to live and teach Health/Vocational Skills at Hope Insititute this summer. I will be in Kampala, City, Uganda.

THANK YOU JESUS FOR THIS AMAZING OPPORTUNITY!

Today I’m sharing the journey to getting this opportunity to go to Uganda, my personal story and some pictures from when I went to Africa in 2016.

Early this semester (spring of my junior year, that sounds crazy to say) in Sewanee I just like the many other juniors pondered my summer plans. Originally I planned to take physics this summer and study for the MCAT…plans always change when you let God be in control. LET ME TELL YA! BECAUSE THAT IS NO LONGER MY SUMMER PLAN.

I started to feel like maybe I should be doing an internship this summer too because all my friends were. I started thinking maybe I should apply for one even though the chances of me getting one is unlikely (Sewanee is SUPER COMPETITIVE JUST SO YA KNOW). I started to say “Hey, Jesus” “what should I do this summer?, which internship should I apply for, should I take physics?” and a series of those kinds of questions. After many moments in prayer I still wasn’t clear on the best thing to do (it’s funny how sometimes we are blind to what God is saying to us). My roommate and friends on campus kept telling me about an internship in Africa that they felt like I should apply for. I love Africa and going to Madagascar in 2016 on Apostolic Youth Core literally changed my life but I kept telling them “yeah that looks cool, but I’m taking physics this summer”. Then I kept seeing posters about it, emails about it and like literally not a day went by that someone didn’t mention it to me.

But, not surprisingly I didn’t plan to apply-still even after all of that. Literally, after God put the answer right in front of my face, I was still walking around oblivious to the fact that God was calling me back to Africa. SIDE NOTE: If you didn’t already know I’m called to missions, I feel a calling to Africa and China specifically. (if you look at my life you’ll see how crazy things happened to make China evident in my everyday life, LITERALLY, IT IS INSANE Y’ALL!) I was called when I was just 13 years old but I didn’t surrender to the call until I was 17 years old. It was my junior/senior year of high school that I really dedicated my life to God and I was reminded of his plans for my life. It was in that time that I started my journey with Modest Fashion, 1998miss.com, Sewanee and allowing God’s will to be the ONLY plan for my life.  CUE THE SONG: MY LIFE IS NOT MY OWN…TO YOU I BELONG…

That really is another long story and honestly, the most amazing story of my life.  I have come on an amazing journey, where, I literally have seen God do MIRACLES THAT WOULD BLOW YOUR MIND. It’s my testimony and I’m proud of it.

You see my life isn’t perfect, and it’s not always as Instagram may make it seem. I’m blessed but not because I come from a super wealthy family, have connections, or am super smart. I am blessed because my father is Jesus and he has given me EVERY SINGLE THING I HAVE. He has opened every door in my life, he got me into Sewanee, he got me to Madagascar and China, my car, my blog, being invited to attend Dubai Modest Fashion Week-LITERALLY THAT ISN’T EVEN THE HALF OF IT. I AM NOTHING WITHOUT JESUS.

But we will save that for another time because it’s a very long story and I want to give it the attention it deserves.

So anyways back to Uganda. I wasn’t seeing the signs and then my mom came to campus…during her visit she saw the poster about this internship 3 times and said: “Alexa, I think you should go to this information session about this internship”. I said back “Mom, I’m going to take physics this summer and I would never get that internship it’s competitive”. She again said, “Alexa, you should go”.

I argued with her a little more, it’s funny how we do that… MOM’S ALWAYS KNOW BEST. Eventually, I agreed that I would go to the information session about the internship.

Fast Forward: It was a busy day at school and I had to change my hours at work to go to the information session. I was tired and hungry but off to the information session I went. I was late, I walked in super awkward and found a seat at the door. I was surprised to see SO many kids in the room. I started to feel like…great, look there’s so and so, and wow I didn’t know she was going to apply, and yeah I’m def not going to get this internship.

But the more I listened, the more I felt like I should go to Uganda. So I left the internship session feeling like I knew I was supposed to apply but discouraged because I thought I would never get the opportunity to go. (Again, why wasn’t I trusting God this early in the game).

Fast forward again: I had been praying about Uganda and about, which, one of the Uganda internships I should apply for. It was time to apply and it was a busy Friday night in Sewanee. I said at my desk after an extremely long day and began to look at the application, which, was due at midnight. I decided I would apply to all three and keep my options open but as I worked on my application I realized how much effort it was to apply. I began to understand that I was only going to have time to apply to one of the programs and that I really needed to devote my time to that one. It was the first application I started working on so I put all of my energy in that one…the one at Hope Institute. It wasn’t even the one that was my top choice but I had already started it. Hours passed and I barely made the deadline to turn it in… When I pressed submit I prayed that God would be with my application because I was starting to really feel the call to go back to Africa.

A few days passed and I got an email from Dr. Amy Patterson saying: “We would like to offer you an interview for this position in Uganda this summer, please sign up for a time below”. I was like MIRANDA I GOT AN INTERVIEW!!!! I was so stinking excited but also so nervous now because it was getting real. I pondered over the scheduled times and selected the only time slot that would work with my schedule and I prayed that God would be my help in the process.

Interview day came and even though in the past I have always been strong at interviews I never seemed to get the things I applied for after the interview phase in Sewanee, so I was nervous. (Yep, I have had many failures…especially here) I selected my green skirt society dress and said okay God if this is not your will I DON’T WANT IT! It calmed my nerves and I went to the interview. It was really and truly how I felt because I literally KNOW after 21 years of life that God’s plans are always greater.

I met Amy Patterson and Asiedu-Acquah for the interview. They asked me a series of questions and I answered with my beaming smile knowing God would work it out if it was his will! (I WAS SUPER NERVOUS ON THE INSIDE) Although, my favorite moment from the interview was when I was asked “Alexa, what do you do when you are feeling down or homesick because you’ll be in Africa for a long time if you get selected for this internship”, I replied honestly and very quickly with “I listen to Gospel music and sing because it always helps me to feel God. It helps me to get positive and know that I’m going to be okay whereever I am, whatever I’m going through”. Then I kind of laughed because I realized how funny that might make me seem but it was the truth!!

Both of my interviewers smiled back at me saying “they would love you in Kampala and want to bring to church”. My hopes got up and I realized just how badly I wanted to be there, how badly I wanted the internship and how much God had planned for the summer and that I was limiting myself with physics and staying home.

A week or so passed and I got another email from Dr. Patterson, I was about to open it preparing myself that it was a rejection email and that I did my best (plus that it must not be God’s will). I opened it and OH MY LORD, IT WAS THE EXACT OPPOSITE!!! I HAD LANDED THE INTERNSHIP IN KAMPALA CITY, UGANDA!!! JESUS WAS FAITHFUL. HE WAS WITH ME. HE WENT BEFORE ME. IT WAS HIS WILL FOR ME TO GO BACK TO AFRICA.

A FEW WEEKS LATER I GOT ANOTHER EMAIL THAT MY FUNDING PROPOSAL FOR THE INTERNSHIP HAD BEEN SELECTED (that was another 20+ hours I spent writing, editing and working on…the proposal for funding to go to Kampala City. I literally stayed up until 6AM with NO SLEEP to finish the funding proposal and then went to class at 8AM) AND THEY WERE GOING TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE COSTS OF GOING TO UGANDA! IT WAS LITERALLY A MIRACLE FROM JESUS!

It’s important to see the destination is not always easy to get to. I’m just keeping it real over here.

So while all of my costs are not covered God has already started providing for my journey back to Africa, the place that I left a piece of my heart in so long ago! I’m excited and I have faith that God will be with me every step of the way!

OH AND SIDE NOTE: WHEN I WAS HOME ON SPRING BREAK, BIG MIKE CAME TO MY HOME CHURCH TO TALK ABOUT HIS EXPERIENCE IN AFRICA. LET ME BE MORE SPECIFIC IN UGANDA. LET ME BE EVEN MORE SPECIFIC IN KAMPALA CITY, UGANDA. LET ME BREAK IT DOWN FURTHER. HE LITERALLY CAME THE ONLY SUNDAY I WAS BACK IN ARKANSAS.

SO IT IS MY PRAYER AND HOPE THAT WHILE I AM WORKING AT HOPE INSTITUTE I WILL BE ABLE TO INTERACT WITH THE MISSIONS WORK ALREADY GOING ON IN KAMPALA CITY.

So while that may seem like the long version it is actually the shortened version. There is so much more to it but I’ll leave it at that.

OH AND P.S. LOOK AT GOD. HIS WILL. HIS BILL.

Please join me in praying for my internship, travels, fundraising and the amazing journey that will be Kampala City, Uganda.

XOXO,
DUBAI STUFF COMING SOON. Sorry school is SO BUSY!

February Update + VDAY Look

February 20, 2019

你好

Hello 1998miss.com readers! I am so glad you’re back again for this super spontaneous post which wasn’t planned but is indeed my way of making up for the fact I didn’t have a new blog post last Thursday or a video on Friday. A lot has been happening so I’ve been kind of adjusting to a new schedule but these are ALL good things. I’m happy to have to adjust my schedule because it means I’m busy which means I’m blessed.

I’ve been spending lot’s of time with some new friends and I’m so happy about that. It’s nice to make your circle bigger and to have plans all weekend. I’m also preparing for one of the biggest most exciting events of my life…so yeah that’s happening too.

In all of this, I feel JOY. I feel so blessed I get to do all of the things I get to do, meet all the people I get to meet, see all the places I get to see and study all the things I feel passionate about. I’m privileged without a shadow of a doubt- but it’s not because I come from important people or because I was born Alexa Sue-Anne Dudley in Joplin, Missouri. The reason I’m blessed is that I gave my entire life to Jesus Christ and when I surrendered my plans, desires, and dreams to him…he saw my heart and started doing a work in my life. If y’all ONLY KNEW!

I have so many things I want to scream from the rooftop right now because I am so stinking excited and SO thankful for God’s favor in my life.

He’s been opening doors since day one of me saying “Jesus my life is not my own but to you, I belong. I give myself, I give myself away” and “Jesus at the center of it all”. Y’all think I’m kidding but these songs became my anthem because I desired to live 100% for God. Sold out to him if you will. (Lol I always think it’s funny when people say “if you will” so I wanted to use it too).

The focus of this blog post may be a little hazy at this point but I really just wanted to take a moment to update everyone on what’s been happening with me + share my Valentine’s Day look!

VALENTINES DAY LOOK

This was seriously the most fun look ever!! I was sent this dress from one of my favorite brands (Y’all know I’m always sharing things about Skirt Society) and when I got it I immediately thought I needed to save it for Valentines Day. The pink color and the fun pom details looked perfect to celebrate in! I ended up pairing it with some patterned tights, shoes and an eccentric pink jacket.

Single Gals ROCK!!!

Jacket: Saks Off Fifth | Tights: Amazon | Boots: Sam Edelman | Bag: GIFTED | Lovely Dress: Skirt Society

XOXO My loves!!!

See you soon!

January Favorites

January 25, 2019

Hey!! Welcome back to 1998miss.com! I am so happy you’re here! It’s been a little bit since my last post and I apologize. Since then I’ve come back to college started my classes and have been insanely busy. I have been working on getting back into the swing of things and determining what the best schedule is for 1998miss.com this semester!

I’m moving my weekly blog posts to Thursday’s and my weekly vlogs to Friday! This way I can really focus on my schoolwork early in the week and get new content ready to share by the end of the week! I am also still continuing my weekly blog posts with Skirt Society writing a new post every Wednesday! You can read Yesterday’s here!

Also if you haven’t yet please check out my last three blog posts on 1998miss.com here, here and here! Now let’s jump right into the blog!

Today I’m sharing my January Favorites which includes products I’ve had my eye on, have been using or just really want for the month! I always enjoy reading these style of blog posts so I’m excited to share my own with Y’all.

The first is something I’ve had my eye on since I first heard about it but the downside is that it is SO expensive so I haven’t gotten to give it a whirl yet. I have watched many tutorials of bloggers using it and loving it so it’s on my wishlist for one day!

So the next goodie is a GOODIE! I bought my mom and friend each one of the fabulous candles from Saks just this week! I’m dying to have my own but they are quite expensive and I can’t have any lighted candles in my room so I’ll just have to wait until Summer. ALL the gals I follow love these and I get why because they look and smell beautiful!

I already ordered this because I feel like I can’t live without it. Since I’m in college and don’t have access to great tasting water I order one of these bad boys! We have one at home and I just need one for school. I think that it will help keep me consistent with drinking water!

Next is something I ordered from Skirt Society and I think every gal needs it! It’s the cutest little asymmetrical denim skirt! Get yours before they sell out!

These I picked up last week at JCREW for a steal of a deal and Y’all they are beautiful! I’m always on the lookout for cute hair accessories!

I also LOVE THIS AND WANT IT SO BAD. IT is on my bday wishlist and life wishlist. The ultimate cute phone case!

My all-time favorite planner and organizer! Literally, the greatest planner known to man is the day designer! I LOVE IT!

So the next thing is one of my all-time favorite Louis Vuitton! It’s the speedy which my mom has both in monogrammed and then Louis monogrammed but recently I am in love with this baby version! I want one with my initials!

Okay so this is basically just like a January round up and I really just wanted to tell Y’all about the things I’m loving recently!  I hope this inspires you a little bit to make your own list of favorites for January because even if you’re not buying it you can still enjoy just imagining you are!!

All Glory to God!
Peace and Blessings,
1998miss

XOXO,

2018, My Year in Review

January 11, 2019

2018, thank you for the lessons you taught me, the blessings you brought and the experiences you gave. In short, this was a year of growth and learning in my life.
I am thankful for each and every moment of this past year because each day was a profound gift from God. While it might be more fun to make this year in a review blog post all my glittery moments I simply can not sugar coat it all because while there were many beautiful days in 2018 there were also many hard days. There were days where I felt like I couldn’t make it through, where I felt my lowest of low when God picked me up and carried me. We can not forget those days as we take a look of review on this past year because it isn’t always the beautiful sparkly days that teach us the important lessons. Often it is the dark days where we have to call on the name of Jesus to get us through that will get something valuable. Sometimes God has to break us and get us into a place where we are able to listen to his voice and hear him clearly. He broke me many times in 2018 and I am so thankful for that. So while I share the many beautiful days, experiences, people and moments of 2018 you must understand that there were many moments that were not glamorous but were just real life days-those unfiltered/unshared/raw/real moments. The ones that I didn’t share to Instagram or 1998miss.com with you. The ones that shape me at my very core and make me the Alexa Sue-Anne Dudley I am. Those are the ones that give me my character and ability to find beauty in the ordinary. Even though life is often broken, mundane and hard we have the power with God to make each day as sparkly and as fun as we wish.

So to celebrate my two thousand and eighteen I am going to highlight my favorite moments/photos from 2018.

My biggest and greatest moment in 2018 would have to be traveling to China with my mom and best friend for my summer break. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I would get to travel there before I graduated from Sewanee. Also if you’re new here I am called to China for missions and the Chinese people have a very special place in my heart.

So wow first off GOD DID A MIRACLE AND GOT ME THERE FOR UNDER $500 + my mom is stellar at finding good flights. Next, God helped me keep all of my expenses under 1,000 for an entire month and a half. Y’all God literally opened every single door. Then, God worked out an arrangement for me to spend an entire week interning at the top Chinese hospital in Xi’an, China. As if it wasn’t enough he also placed me in contact with the president of the hospital who okayed me spending an entire day in the OR. I should also mention here if you’re new that I am a PRE-MED student at the University of The South planning to do international medicine in China after graduation from medical school. The OR is the operating room and is the place where I watched my first surgery ever. It is the place where I discovered my passion for medicine and where I saw the potential to serve in the future. It was the place where all the hours and hours I spend studying in my dorm room found reason. God is faithful friends and in more ways than one God showed me that in 2018. HE IS GOOD.

SUNDAY BEST

Trendy Chic Sunday Best #OOTD + 10 stylish ways to layer up in winter!

November 15, 2018

Happy Thursday! Hope everyone is staying warm because it’s freezing out! Today on the gram I saw so many beautiful places getting their first snow of the season and it was so beautiful! So far Sewanee has just seen colder weather but I’m holding out for a good snow after Thanksgiving because it’s always so beautiful! Winter is actually my favorite season! I love being cozy and winter style is always so chic!

If you haven’t already checked out my blog post with Skirt Society from Wednesday check it out here! It’s about finding beauty in brokenness and it’s a read I think everyone will benefit from!

So let’s jump right into today’s annual weekly blog post! I’m sharing all the details from last Sunday’s fall look and some of my favorite ways to stay chic in the winter months! I’m all about layering and below I’ll share my favorite ways to do it!

This Sunday best look was very trendy and I loved incorporating a tube top into it! It’s a fun way to spice up something you’ve already got in your closet, create a nice waistline and keep it fresh! I can’t wait to put it over a dress shirt next! I’m also loving this style of skirt this season because it really elevates a look + is a little bit warmer!

Trendy Chic Sunday Best

Skirt: Forever 21 (similar style here) |  Black Tube Top: Target  | Tissue Turtleneck: JCREW (similar style here) |Pointed Black Midi Boots: Dillard’s (similar style here) | Double-buckle belt: Amazon Fashion

Also obligatory shoutout to my roommate for taking all of my instagram pictures and blog pictures! 1998miss.com wouldn’t be the same without you!!! All in favor of her starting her blog say I!!!!!! (That should be everyone because she is the cutest!)

10 Stylish ways to layer this season!

  1. Add a cozy hat to your look!! Big knit is so in right now!
  2. Add a nice scarf that accents your gloves and hat!
  3. Colored tights are so in this season and are a great way to stay warm in dresses!
  4. Fun pantyhose! I’m all about the heart pattern, fishnet, floral and more! I just pulled all of mine out last week!
  5. Knee high boots! I’m actually loving these thigh high UGG’s here!
  6. Knee socks are such a cute way to stay warm with a skirt!
  7. Go monochromatic with lots of layers!
  8. Don’t be afraid to rock multiple layers of all black!
  9. Turtlenecks are classic by themselves or paired under a dress!
  10. Big cozy sweaters over dresses!!!

Just a reminder I post daily on Instagram, Thursday’s here on 1998miss.com and Tuesday’s on my youtube channel! You can click the link here to subscribe to my channel to get notified when I post!

Coffee Date #3

Happy November 1st!

Also quick Happy Birthday shoutout to my sweet friend Abigail Vogelsang!!!!!

Hey, Y’all welcome back to 1998miss.com I’m so excited you’re here and can’t wait for you to check out today’s blog post! Coffee Dates are sort of my favorite blog posts because I can share a little bit of everything I’m loving with y’all + I get a chance to be really personal with my readers! Unlike most of my posts, these are not just about fashion!

This is my third official coffee date on 1998miss.com so you haven’t missed many if you’re just now visiting for the first time! You can check out Coffee Date #1 and Coffee Date #2 here!

Grab your favorite cup of Joe and get cozy because here we go!

So I first off should say so much has happened since my last coffee date back in July but to kind of give you a brief update I’m currently back at Sewanee completing my Junior year as a Pre-Med, Psychology Major and hopefully a Chinese minor if the University will establish one. I just got back from fall break and finished my midterms getting 4 A’s out of the 6 classes I’m taking. This is a huge accomplishment for me since being in college because I really had to reteach myself how to study since I got to Sewanee! I’m so proud of myself for making such amazing improvements!! Thank you JESUS! I work out 3X a week and run which has been a great change in my life this semester! I am also being very intentional about what I’m eating and people are finally starting to notice my hair growth!!! Read this blog post to know why I’m excited about that! Also, I’m overloading this semester and couldn’t be busier! Between weekly blogging & youtubing, classes, studying, work study, leading worship at CRU, acapella, PMO, Sewanee Angels and Church I have almost zero time! But not to complain because I like it that way because I think I perform my best when I’m busy! I now blog every single week and sometimes twice a week with a guest blogger either a woman of faith or a Sewanee Featured Gal! This is so exciting because after 3 years of running 1998miss.com I finally have a schedule I LOVE! It has been so nice to feel organized and really get to choose in advance what I want each blog post to be about and each month on 1998miss.com to look like! On a very personal side note -my family has been going through something really difficult and midterms were really busy so I just took a break from blogging! I rejoined Instagram and the blog just last week with a new blog post talking about my two new skirt society skirts and how to style them each several completely different ways! You can read that post here! Skirt Society is one of my first few companies to sponsor me and I’m so excited to have the opportunity to work with such an awesome company! It’s exciting to have grown enough where I’m getting to feature beautiful clothes I love for free!

Before we move on to more fun things I would like to ask for prayer about a personal matter since we’re being real here and chatting over coffee. Just say a little prayer for me and my family :).

OKAY so here’s the lowdown on what I’m obsessed with recently!

THIS SONG:

I am so obsessed with Lauren Daigle’s song Rescue because it has literally lifted my spirits in the darkest moments these last few weeks! The lyrics couldn’t speak to my heart any more than they have and I’m so thankful I have had this song to listen to during this time. I literally love it more than anything else right now. She’s an incredible artist with a voice similar to Adele and singing for the glory of God! I honestly love her whole entire album so you should check it out here to listen!

THIS MESSAGE:

Surprise, Surprise I have been needing Jesus a whole lot more than usual so I’m filling my head, heart, and ears with his word! In addition to listening to Lauren Daigle ALL the time, I’m also listening to a message on youtube every single day. I love listening to Pastor Steven Furtick on Youtube and when I was listening to this week I found the best sermon. I’m not kidding Y’all it hit the hammer on the head to help me with what I’m going through. It was such a moving message, and it touched my heart. I highly recommend listening to all of his messages but especially this one! It’s called You Must Be Important and you can listen to it here.

THIS QUOTE:

THIS NAIL POLISH:

I still love the polish I shared on the last coffee date post but have been using this color a lot! It’s a little bit different and it’s chip resistant! So quick and easy to use + I’m saving so much money by not going to a salon. Get this great shade at CVS or similar stores-It’s called Chai on Life | Shade 180 for Sally Hansen’s Color Therapy line! Also available here!

THIS BLOG POST ON LONESTARSOUTHERN.COM:

So I’m just thrilled for a blogger I love named Kate from over at Lonestarsouthern.com because she just got engaged!!!!! I have been following her blog for a while now and I feel like I know her as a close friend lol-but I know this is a precious blessing from God that she’s marrying Andrew! She’s a beautiful gal who you NEED to follow! She’s always sharing uplifting content and actually started her blog in college! This is one of the reasons I love her so much as a current blogger at Sewanee! So check out this heartwarming post here and follow Kate on Instagram here! P.S. I’m hoping one day I’ll find my other half just like Kate and have faith that it doesn’t have to happen at the same time as my best friends or in college!!!! <3

THIS YOUTUBE VIDEO:

I recently found Tess Christine on YouTube and love her New York City series!!!! She’s seriously so pretty and does an amazing job putting together this series! Check out her Video NYC GUIDE: Top Instagram Photo Locations!

THIS GAL:

Y’all talk about a blessing in my life! Literally, Michelle Horton is a blessing! She has literally touched my heart this last month with reaching out to me on Instagram and giving me the opportunity to feature her clothes on 1998miss.com! She has a beautiful heart and wants to help young women succeed! Her store has so many beautiful pieces and I featured two of them here! Go follow Michelle by clicking here!

THIS BLESSING:

I am going to be writing a featured blog post for Michelle at Skirt Society weekly!! EEEK EEEK EEK! GOD IS SO GOOD Y’ALL! I am getting paid to do what I love writing!! I am going to get to share an exclusive inspirational post on her website every Wednesday! Just a little tease of what they will be about: positivity, fashion, and faith!! These posts will be for women of all ages and will serve to inspire and cultivate an environment celebrating women!

Well, I’m all out of coffee so let’s catch up again soon! It was so good to see you and thanks for stopping by! Even in the middle of complete craziness, God is working in my life! I love Y’all!!

XOXO,

Adventures to Tan-Tar-A Resort

NHS CONFERENCE

Today the National Honor Society officials (yesterday I was elected NHS chapter president! BLESSINGS!) made a journey to Tan-Tar-A Resort @ Lake of the Ozarks for a conference! I was very delighted to be going to what I call Tan-Tar-A…the dirty dancing resort. LOL. But it seriously reminds me of that movie! They have everything to offer, it’s cute & I picture Baby & her family there! My mom said when she was a teenager she had friends that would stay there every other summer, I thought it sounded swell. & VINTAGE. Anyways that is where I’ve been all day!

This event posed a dress code…wear mustang colors (RED & BLACK) & look cute yet be comfy for the long car ride! This is a common issue we all know but don’t worry I’ve gotten a solution! I knew immediately that a maxi was the way to go! I got this maxi from Ann Taylor Loft a few years ago and this is the first wear it has gotten! I got it for the bargain price of $6 & I love it because it is unique to the maxi skirt traddition because if flares out at the bottom! If you have the chance check out Tan-Tar-A and share you experiences in the comments!

P.S. What’s your dress code Dilemma?
